Corn (Maize) is one of the most widely cultivated cereal crops in the world and plays a vital role in both food and industrial sectors. It is valued for its high energy content and versatility, being used in human consumption, animal feed, and various industrial products. Corn contains a good amount of carbohydrates, along with essential vitamins and minerals.
In Pakistan, corn is grown in several regions including Punjab, Sindh, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) under both irrigated and rain-fed conditions. It is cultivated in two main seasons: Spring and Autumn. The ideal sowing time for spring corn is from February to March, while for autumn corn it is from July to August. The recommended seed rate is approximately 8–10 kg per acre.
Corn grains are rich in starch and provide a significant source of energy. It also contains small amounts of protein and oil, making it an important crop for both nutritional and commercial purposes. Its wide range of applications makes corn a key agricultural commodity in local and international markets.
